Skin Concerns

Rosacea

Rosacea causes persistent redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels across the cheeks, nose, and forehead. It tends to come and go - often triggered by factors unique to each person.

What it is

Understanding rosacea

Rosacea affects the small blood vessels near the skin's surface, causing them to dilate more easily than normal. Over time, this can lead to persistent redness, sensitivity, and in some cases, small bumps that resemble acne.

The exact cause isn't fully understood, but genetics, an overactive immune response, and vascular sensitivity all play a role. Rosacea tends to worsen without a consistent, gentle skincare approach.

Common triggers include sun exposure, temperature changes, alcohol, spicy food, and stress - though the specific combination that sets off a flare is different for everyone. Identifying your own triggers is a genuinely useful first step.

What you might notice

Signs to be aware of

Flushing that comes on quickly and takes a while to fade
Visible, thread-like blood vessels near the skin's surface
Small, acne-like bumps without blackheads or whiteheads
Skin that stings or feels tight after using certain products
Redness that worsens with sun, heat, alcohol, or spicy food
The science

What's happening beneath the surface

In rosacea-prone skin, the small blood vessels sitting close to the surface dilate more readily than they should, producing the visible redness and flushing that characterises the condition. Over years, some of these vessels can remain permanently visible.

Researchers believe an overactive immune and inflammatory response, alongside a genetic predisposition to vascular sensitivity, underlies most cases - though the precise mechanism is still being studied. What is well understood is the role of triggers: sun exposure, temperature extremes, alcohol, spicy food, stress, and certain skincare ingredients can each set off a flare in susceptible skin.

Because rosacea-prone skin also tends to have a compromised barrier, it reacts more readily to products that wouldn't bother other skin types - which is why a gentle, consistent skincare routine is such a meaningful part of keeping symptoms manageable day to day.

Our approach

How we can support you

Managing rosacea starts with identifying your individual triggers and building a skincare routine that supports rather than irritates the skin barrier. IPL skin rejuvenation may help reduce the appearance of visible vessels and redness in suitable candidates. LED light therapy is a gentler, low-risk option that may help calm inflammation and support the skin barrier - often used on its own for more reactive skin, or alongside IPL as an ongoing maintenance step between sessions.

Your clinician will assess your skin during a consultation and confirm whether IPL, LED, or a combination is right for you.
